Door hardware provisions are a tricky coordination task for any project, and especially so for behavioral health projects. As a proactive effort to address these issues, JJCA leads a hardware and access control coordination meeting during the intial phases of construction. In this meeting, the architect, contractor, door and hardware supplier, telecommunications designer, electrical contractor, and access control/security vendor work through door hardware issues as a team prior to the installation of the first door.  On a recent project for a new behavioral health hospital, the team identified that a standard mineral core door would not stand up well to heavy-duty use with the magnetic locks being supplied. A switch was made to steel doors for improved performance in these locations without causing a change order to the Owner.
