As the need for and interest in behavioral healthcare continues to grow, so too does the demand for information on how hospitals are tackling behavioral healthcare. That was the impetus for our joint presentation at Michigan's recent LARA/AIA Health Facilities Planning Seminar. Designer/Architect Steven Reutter, David E. Johnson Architect; Administrator/CEO Julie Szyska, UHS+Beaumont Health; and Assistant Director of Corporate Facilities, David Bean from UHS; used their shared experiences with the UHS+Beaumont Joint Venture project to provide AIA-creditworthy perspectives on the topic. The audience of mostly Michigan med/surg hospital operators learned not only about design strategies and regulations related to patient and staff safety, but were also provided perspectives on the collaborative methods used by owners, designers and operators to design and deliver appropriate healthcare environments.
