Celebrating Transformation at Cumberland Heights

Cumberland Heights has stood as a beacon of hope and transformation for over half a century at the heart of a serene farm outside Nashville. This addiction treatment facility, with its rich history of impacting lives, is embarking on a new chapter, and we’re proud to be part of serving as the Project Manager for comprehensive upgrades and expansions to this venerable campus.

Recently, Cumberland Heights celebrated a significant milestone—the groundbreaking of new therapeutic and residential complexes. This event marked the commencement of a vital phase in enhancing the facility’s infrastructure and expanding its capacity to heal. The Recovery in Community masterplan, meticulously crafted a couple of years ago, aims to replace aging residential facilities and introduce modern therapeutic environments conducive to recovery.  The significance of the name is that addiction happens in isolation, and recovery happens in the community.

Under JJCA's guidance, the campus will soon feature state-of-the-art buildings that foster community and privacy. The new structures will accommodate up to 80 beds in semi-private rooms, cleverly designed with divider walls to offer some privacy while maintaining a sense of togetherness—key to the recovery process. Each building will house 40 beds, grouped in clusters of 20, allowing scalability and community formation within the campus.

The redesign focuses on creating distinct communities for men and women while centralizing shared facilities like dining areas and the chapel. This not only enhances the sense of community but also facilitates the management of the campus. Additionally, the plan includes provisions for future expansion, reflecting the growing need for effective addiction treatment facilities.

Our approach goes beyond architectural design; it’s about creating spaces that resonate with Cumberland Heights' mission. The new women’s building and the upcoming ARCH Academy campus for adolescent girls are prime examples of tailored solutions that address specific needs—ranging from mood disorders to trauma and disordered eating.

In April, Cumberland Heights hosted its alumni gathering and celebrated the groundbreaking of these pivotal projects. It was a time of reflection and gratitude, recognizing the journey so far and the paths being paved for future recovery.

As JJCA continues to assist Cumberland Heights in these transformative endeavors, we remain committed to using our expertise to solve complex challenges and enhance the healing journey. This project isn't just about architectural achievements; it's about nurturing a community that supports individuals throughout their recovery and beyond.
