We're thrilled to introduce the newest addition to our JJCA family—David Proffitt, AIA, ALEP, and architectural extraordinaire with over 45 years of experience in the industry. David joins us after retiring as Executive Director for Facilities, Maintenance and Construction at Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS), where he left an indelible mark on the city's educational landscape.

David's journey into architecture began with a spark of inspiration during high school, leading him to a top spot at the University of Kentucky's College of Architecture. Since then, he's cultivated a career filled with accolades and leadership roles, including serving as a Senior Architect at the University of Louisville and managing multi-million-dollar projects across various sectors.

David’s passion for architecture is seen in his leadership and commitment to the profession:

  • American Institute of Architects, National Board of Directors – 2004 to 2009. National Secretary, Regional Director, Codes and Standards Advisory Group, and the Secretary’s Advisory Council
  • American Institute of Architects, Kentucky/ Kentucky Society of Architects 1995 - 2016. Government Affairs, State Government Network, 1998 – 2016 (Past President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary)
  • American Institute of Architects, Tennessee/ AIA Tennessee, Middle Tennessee Chapter, Secretary, 2022 and 2023, Vice President 2024
  • Association for Learning Environments
  • Construction Specification Institute
  • Certified Roof Consultant, BURSI

He’s been recognized for his architectural expertise across the region:

  • C Julian Oberwarth Award, AIA Kentucky, 2008, AIA Kentucky’s most prestigious individual service award for an Architect. (AIA KYs Gold Medal)
  • Distinguished Service Award, AIA Kentucky, 2002. For significant contribution to the profession of Architecture in Kentucky.
  • Hall of Fame Award Recipient: Distinguished Alumni Barren County High School, 2008

His dedication to quality and mentorship has been a constant theme throughout his career, something he’s excited to bring to JJCA.

But David isn't just about blueprints and building codes. Outside the office, he's an Executive Whiskey Steward (yes, that's a real thing!) and a trustee of the Whiskey House in Nashville, where he helps raise funds for charity through whiskey tastings. When he's not exploring the nuances of bourbon, you might find him sketching with a pencil, traveling through Europe, or spending time with his family, including his wife Dana, their two grown children, and a new granddaughter, Riley McKenna.

David’s decision to join JJCA was fueled by a shared commitment to quality and a passion for mentoring the next generation of architects. He’s eager to pass on his extensive knowledge of building construction and systems, aiming to help our team avoid pitfalls in the field. In his words, “JJCA’s staff produce better documents than most in our area along with solid design,” and he’s looking forward to being a part of this dynamic team.

Please join us in giving David a warm welcome! We’re excited about the expertise, experience, and enthusiasm he brings to our projects and our team. Here's to new beginnings and continued excellence at JJCA!
